British Land wants more retail and less office space once RBS departs Bishopsgate home

British Land wants more retail and less office space once RBS departs Bishopsgate home

The landlord of RBS' 135 Bishopsgate home has submitted plans to revamp the building once the bank leaves. British Land has put in a planning application to the City of London to overhaul the offices next to Liverpool Street station. A key change will be to increase the number of retail outlets within the 340,000 square foot building, reflecting a greater demand for shopping and leisure outlets from the City's workers.

Plans will also include better connections with the streets and an upgrade of the public space outside the property. The overall square footage will remain the same.

The changes are part of a wider strategy by British Land to turn Broadgate into a mixed-use destination, building on the success of Broadgate Circle. British Land is also planning more retail outlets at 100 Liverpool Street and increasing flexible working space as part of its refurbishment of 1 Finsbury Avenue.
