Manchester’s tallest skyscraper plan approved

Manchester’s tallest skyscraper plan approved

Manchester planners have given the green light to a cluster of four new towers – one high enough to overshadow the Beetham tower as the city’s tallest building.  Manchester owen street.  The four towers will range from 37 storeys to 64 storeys high.  The residential-led development at Owen Street with its 200m main tower is set to become the tallest building in the country outside of London.

It ranks as the most ambitious of several proposed schemes that could turn Manchester city centre into a high-rise residential area.

The four towers will range from 37 storeys to 64 storeys high, overshadowing Manchester’s present tallest building the Beetham Tower at 47 storeys. The glazed towers will feature unusual inverted facades on each face of the buildings.  Developers are also planning three levels of basement parking, complete with a pick-up and drop-off zone.

Residents will have access to an indoor tennis court, swimming pool and spa, along with a gym, beauty treatment facilities, cinema and rooftop bar.

Forming part of the wider Great Jackson Street development, groundworks at the four acre site have already begun, with completion expected by 2020.  Main construction work could start as early as this autumn, with building expected to last for 54 months.
