Transformation of Parc Tawe retail and leisure park in Swansea begins

Parc Tawe retail and leisure park in Swansea

Hammerson announces that work on its £15 million redevelopment of Parc Tawe retail and leisure park in Swansea has started on site further to plans being approved by Swansea Council.

The refurbishment will completely transform the park, providing over 18,500 sqm of contemporary new shops and restaurants that will sit alongside the retained Odeon cinema, Tenpin bowling alley and Plantasia.

Hammerson is set to welcome Mothercare into a new unit whilst Toys ‘R’ Us will trade from an upgraded store.

Costa Coffee will also be occupying a sustainable ‘zero energy’ pod which will be a drive thru coffee shop.

The modernised scheme will provide space for five additional new retail brands, potentially including a foodstore, and four new restaurants. In addition there will be new open public areas, with seating and living green walls, creating an attractive and enjoyable environment for visitors to shop and dine.

Ideally located at the gateway to the centre of the city, the redeveloped Parc Tawe will act as a catalyst for the future growth of Swansea as a key retail destination in the region.

Andrew Berger North, UK Director of Retail Parks at Hammerson, commented:

“It is a significant achievement that we have reached the important milestone of starting works on site. Our plans to create a leading, contemporary and attractive retail destination at Parc Tawe are long overdue which is why we have continued to worked closely with Swansea Council to ensure that the very best scheme has been brought forward. We now look forward to delivering the redevelopment project to ensure that the park plays a key role in the continued regeneration of Swansea.”

Cllr Rob Stewart, Swansea Council Leader, added:

“I am delighted that Hammerson is proceeding with its refurbishment of Parc Tawe. We welcome the investment, which is one of many schemes that will begin this year. Parc Tawe has looked tired for some time, so this scheme will breathe new life into this vital part of the city centre and improve the appearance of a key gateway in and out of Swansea.

“Our aspiration is to leave no part of the city centre untouched from our regeneration plans, with exciting development schemes for St David’s, Kingsway and other areas also in the pipeline.”
